Here is Kirby Ferguson, creator of the Everything is a Remix series, explaining his theory of creative inspiration, remix, and cultural commons, and citing some of history's best-loved "individual" creators and explaining how what they did was a remix, i.e., an extension and a part of the work that came before them.

Here is an example of an augmentative remix (contributed by course alum Maddy Hunt) in which a live talk by Sir Ken Robinson is reconfigured into two different visual media:
so how do we fix this? is there where open source learning comes in? changing the way we learn things new with our iphones and ipad's and internet?
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly where Open Source Learning comes in.
Deletewell then lets get the word out. because i am sick of school. too much homework, too much wasted time. i took an online class this summer that taught a whole year of geometry in 6 weeks. i passed with an A. and it just really shows how much wasted time there is during a school year. so mainly this year class is just me sitting there being annoyed how how long teachers take to put the point across. and this year is FULL of homework. alg 2. chem. spanish. i think with open source learning you can learn more. with using less. you just have to apply yourself too it. so lets get the word out! #oslearning
Deleteokay just finshed the 1st video. i have a question, if everything comes from an idea somewhere else. does that mean absolutly nothing is original anymore?
ReplyDeleteEvery remix is original in that the person who creates it makes decisions about content, presentation and message to create something that hasn't been created before. But completely original is increasingly hard to find.
Deletecan you go over this briefly in class tomorrow to make sure i understand it right?
DeleteI never knew that star wars had some many remixies of other movies, and the light bulb wasn't created by Thomas Edison that just blew my mind bout to watch the second video
ReplyDeleteSo on the second video back then school was just an expiement to see if kids can learn from school
ReplyDeleteIt's a heckuva history, let's talk in class tomorrow.
